This sounds concerning. Hopefully the Mexican variant doesn't spread to the US, at least we have some weak version that we're able to treat so far!

And of course, for all of the people in Mexico City, hopefully something is figured out to prevent more innocent deaths. Tragedies like this are fun for no one and certainly no laughing matter for the ones involved.

What's concerning is that this could be a "herald" event. It's not now you need to be worried about but the next flu season in Nov/Dec. Just as a refresher, the 1918 "Spanish" flu that killed between 20 and 50 million people world wide had 3 stages. The first was a mild outbreak in the spring, then it came back again worse, and then it came back a 3rd time and people were dying within 24 hours of first symptoms. What marks a "bad one" is the age spread. Most of the folks who get the flu are babies, elderly, and those with resp. issues. The regular flu kills about 35k annually. The 1918 flu hit the 18-35 year olds. This one looks like it's taking aim at the middle of the demographic too which is why there's so much concern.

It will probably be classified as a pandemic soon. For a virus to have pandemic potential, it must meet three conditions: it must be new, it must cause severe disease, and it must be transmissible. I think the WHO and CDC is just waiting to declare that as there's a lot of misunderstanding as to what a pandemic really is.

Actually, I didn't grab any of that from the wiki Abedeus. Not a single word, I don't use a wiki for knowledge as they are notoriously inaccurate nor did I even read it.

But now that I have, I looked at the wiki description for the 1918 spanish flu and the swine flu and nowhere did it mention anything about it being in 3 stages, nowhere did it explain what a herald event is nor did anything cover the steps necessary for the CDC or WHO to declare something a pandemic. What I posted was completely different. I guess the fact I used numbers means to someone that I just must have googled/wiki the sucker.

I have a friend that is a nurse who works closely with the CDC and she was talking to me about it last night is all. She then subsequently posted the info on a Nurses forum as well.

i live in Tijuana mexico and this town hasnt been infected yet how ever Tecate which is another town next to where i live i just heard a lil girl died because of this.

What was 8 in NYC yesterday has exceeded 20 so far today.

All of this information people are saying about “swine flu” should be taken in with caution. For anyone living on the planet, it would be helpful for you to know how our disease model has changed over the years. A long time ago, diseases were falsely defined as foreign organisms that caused destruction to the immune system and body. The proof of this theory we relied on was that immediately after the organisms entered the body, the body would display all kinds of symptoms.

We later discovered the classification of the auto-immune disease. The symptoms of the auto-immune disease were not caused specifically by the organisms entering the body, but by the immune system’s reaction to those organisms. The understanding behind treating the autoimmune disease is related to gaining control over the immune system itself and suppressing its capacity to harm oneself. The immune system would be a great thing to develop personal control over it; autoimmune symptoms are a problem based on the reactions of the immune system being automatic and not controlled.

One of the symptoms of influenza is fever, a situation where the body changes temperature to repel the previously defined ‘invading organisms’. Body temperature changes are a reaction of the immune system; the organisms themselves do not cause the changes. This fits the swine flu (a strain of influenza) into a classification of having autoimmune based symptoms. Many of the symptoms can be pinpointed to being controlled by the immune system with current understanding.

Mental state itself has degrees of control over the immune system. This was yet another progressive step in defining the disease model. Depression is defined as a state of low mood. During depression, people can be discovered performing the attacks on themselves, instead of needing to take a more specific look at the immune system. The difference between the number of times a depressed person gets sick and a normal person can be staggering.

Once a strain of something spreads, the immune system has a capacity to learn not to overreact; like it has already done with the replacement of bodily organs. Prior to or after contracting something, the most effective thing you can do is be away from a mental state where you are performing the attacks on yourself; which is not a state of depression or fear over anything that can happen afterwards. Fear has been proven to compromise decision making; the major complaint of symptoms is the decision making of the immune system.
